Hi Guys,

I'm taking the LAT this September and I'm looking for past papers. It's been running for a couple years, so there must be some past papers.

Does anyone have them / know where to find them?

Thanks.

Hsc holiday programs 2017-2018

Hey guys (Bored of studies),
My question is:
From all of the tutoring centres or programs In Hurstville or the CBD, ie. The Brain, TALENT 100, MATRIX, *********, TSFX, HSC IN THE HOLIDAYS ETC.
The subjects which i am looking for these holiday programs for 2018 HSC YEAR (so i can have some advice on which ones to pick for 2018, from your past experiences):
- 2U MATHS
- PHYSICS
- CHEMISTRY
I am looking for:
- pros and cons of each
- the quality of material (ie. How much you get and how much you paid)
- how many hours or days
- are the teachers any good
- perks or bonuses (ie. Free work-shopping of responses or Module exams or lots of great online resources etc.)
FOR WHAT I KNOW:
- TALENT 100 (Mathis 2u is $840 for 5.5 hours 4 days. Physics and Chemistry $630 5.5 hours 3 days (no option topic), booklets are 150-200 pages long + 3hr mock exam included in the last day)
- MATRIX ($795 (If paid by certain date) or if not $895. 3hrs 6 days for 2U math (includes 3 hr mock exam), Physics and Chemistry (no mock exam), booklets are 300 pages in total for each subject, math probs different)
- ********* - FREE LECTURES for ALL SUBJECTS - VERY GOOD REVIEWS + THEY SELL COMPLETE COURSE NOTES (no option topic) FOR SUBJECTS $25...is it actually worth it?
- Dr DU MATHS TERM 3 (14 WEEKS) PURE REVISION OF SYLLABUS 2U MATHS APPROX. $1200

WITH THE OTHER ONES LIKE TSFX OR HSC IN THE HOLIDAYS, ARE THEY ACTUALLY WORTH THE MONEY, ARE THE RESOURCES THAT WE ARE GOING TO GET AS DETAILED AS T100 OR MATRIX????

THANKS GUYS :)

Anyone been to "The Brain" Education For HSC Physics, Chemistry and English Advanced

Hey Guys,
I am in Year 11 2017 at St George Girls High School, heading into Year 12 term 4 this year. Our school will do HSC chemistry in a weird yet logical order.
So i need some perspective and advice from past The Brain students. HONEST OPINIONS PLEASE.
I am looking at joining "The Brain" for HSC Chemistry, Physics and English Advanced.
I currently go to SIGI Learners for Chemistry and Physics.
Is "The Brain" good for Chem and Physics?
Does the Brain have school specific classes for Chemistry and Physics?
What about for option topic?? How will they separate the students??
Like in terms of their notes (is it copy from textbook or is it detailed and goes beyond the syllabus).
What about their homework, is it completely crazy and heavy or chill?
In terms of their exams, is it weekly quizzes with Module exams, Yearly exams and Mock trial HSC exams or next to nothing quizzes?
Are their resources (school trial exam questions) like conveniently combined and separated into the modules or will the students have to sift and sort through the masses of 3000+ school trial papers and do it themselves?
The pricing for "The Brain" is less than SIGI learners ($, so if "The Brain" seems more attractive then i will go for a trial lesson.

Thanks guys. If there are any more attractive aspects of "The Brain" like the tutor for these subjects feel free to add so i can have a deeper insight into how their class works.

Atar estimate please :)

I'm confused on which one to pick for year 11 and 12.
My other subjects are:

I enjoy both subjects, yet want to know how hard/stressful both courses are and also how interesting all topics are.

Commute from Newcastle (Kotara) to UNSW

Hi all,

I'm wanting desperately to attend UNSW next year (I'm currently in year 12), but I'm having doubts as to whether or not it can be done with the issue of commuting a total of 5 hours every day I need to go to uni annoyingly lingering over my head.

I understand that some people manage this Newcastle-to-Sydney commute daily for their work, but only for short periods of time (6 months or so). So I was wondering if anyone thought it was possible for me to (1) construct my timetable to make it so I only have to attend uni 3 days a week, fitting lectures, tutorials, and labs in there; and (2) manage the 5 hour commute.

Thankyou very much! :)

I originally posted this in the science faculty one accidentally :P

Been slacking more than a decade - need advice (subjects, habits)

Hey, sorry if this is the wrong subforum for starters.

I'm at Year 11 right now, moving on to yr 12 in 2 weeks, and I've been slacking for a very long time.
Some backstory that I won't mention since it's not that important, but it has made some very bad habits.
I'd like to do my best, work my best, and get the best ATAR I can.

It would be nice if anyone that has not studied even a little bit in year 11 that made significant progress in year 12 would provide some advice.

Some information:

I'm an international student that started the course at year 11.
And I've done near nothing to study for my subjects. I'm very concerned of HSC.

My subects and raw scores of everything so far are (scores are before prelim final exams)

ESL > 44
Math > 98
Math ex1 > 85
Business Studies > barely over 60
Chemistry > 71
Design / technology > barely over 60
SDD > 86

My estimated ATAR with these scores are 78. Obviously it will lower after the big test, as I am not prepared at all.

To get into my preferred uni course (computer science), I need an atar of 90 and above.

These are the courses I plan to take in year 12:

Math ex1
Math ex2
Business studies
SDD
ESL
(Chemistry?) - backup

I do not, however, enjoy chemistry at all and my scores are horrendous. I've only received a passing score because the questions were all from the KiSS resources and the teacher was generous with the markings. If 10 units are fine for HSC, I will gladly drop chemistry.

Sorry if this thread is all over the place. I'm just very concerned with my HSC year as I have been slacking for over a decade and have very unproductive habits.

If you've slacked your whole year 11 with bad scores but did significantly better in Year 12, please lend some advice.

Thanks.

Need some urgent help for yr 10 Student Research Project

Basically I need to plan, perform and evaluate an experiment investigating the following question: What factors affect the rate of a chemical reaction?

I understand the 4 main factors that affect the rate of reaction (presence of a catalyst, temperature of the chemical system, surface area of the reactant, concentration of the reactant) but I'm not sure what sort of experiment will appropriately answer the question. I've completed most of the theoretical part of the assignment (background research, particle theory, conservation of mass yadda yadda), now I just need to conduct the experiment and write the scientific report.

Initially for my SRP I was planning to investigate how temperature affected the pH of different liquids, but I'm not positive that experiment fits the question. Does anyone have any ideas how I can adjust that experiment to fit the question, or any other experiments I could undertake to answer the question

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if you just share your own experience with the SRP!

ps. this is kind of urgent as im away for three days on school business and i've been denied an extension so i have to complete this experiment by this coming friday (8/9/17)

Analysing texts with explicit language.

Hi, I was thinking of doing a critical response on "Ja'mie: Private School Girl", but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to do, as the show is v explicit. Would I get penalised/marked down for analysing a text with frequent use of expletives? I have other ideas for critical responses in mind, but I do really like the idea of analysing Ja'mie.

Holiday before Year 12

Hey guys!
I'm sure there have been many posts about this topic but there are about 3 weeks before Year 12 starts and I'm a bit nervous and I would like a 95+ ATAR, so I was wondering what to do during the September holidays and the December holidays, or just any holiday in particular haha.

But since the December holiday is such a big break, I was just wondering what do you guys did/going to do and what regrets did you have for not using that time.

Thank you! :)
