REGRET: did I choose the wrong course for prelims?
So I've chosen modern history as one of my electives for year 11 and I regret it. I have music as a backup. I think I have too many creative subjects so that's why I choose history but now I think I should have done the subjects I'm good at. I want to do music 1 instead. It's really been bugging me. I've been told nothing by the school, of the final timetables and stuff but uuuurrgggg.
What should I do?!?!?
Have any of you been in this situation or do you regret doing a subject?

How much have I screwed myself over?
So, my trials are well and truly over and it has only really just settled in that my internal marks/ranks have been cemented. They are not very good, and this can be entirely attributed to the fact I have done zero study.
English Advanced: Have yet to receive the trial paper but I imagine I am sitting around 65% with a rank of 40-45/52
Mathematics: Average 55% with a rank of around 55-65/112
Visual Arts: Average 70% with a rank of 20/31
Legal Studies: Average 62% with a rank of around 30-37/48
Modern History: Average 70% with a rank of 11/15
History Extension: Average of 82% with rank 9/10
Do you think 6 weeks is enough time to pick up my game for externals? If I hypothetically attain band 5s/6s in my external exams, what marks am I looking at/ATAR estimate?
(My school is ranked around 90-110 in the state)

Probably a stupid question, but is there any techniques in this line from Jasper Jones? Thanks !!

Past Paper efficiency
So I've been doing a bunch of past papers in preparation for my prelim yearlies but I'm always getting a range of low marks
I understand that this is a good thing as I am able to crack down on my weaknesses in my learning and understanding.
But constantly getting 40-70% and never really being able to breach that 80% let alone 90% mark is starting to weigh on me. I'm doing schools that set exams harder than mine as well, and this really occurs mainly in phys chem and 3u
I've done around 15~ maths papers (maybe less maybe more) and after each one I read the solutions and work on those areas in the cambridge textbook. But every exam I manage the find another weakness, even in topics that I already went and studied
Is there a way that I can fix this or feel better about the consecutive low marks?
Thankssss

Limiting reagent
https://thsconline.github.io/s/?view...012%20w.%20sol
I am a bit confused on 23 (c) Where did I go wrong:
My solution:
n=m/M finding moles of Pb(NO3)2
20.0g/331.22
=0.06038282712g/mol
Finding KI moles
n=m/M
20/166
O.1204819277
So isn't Pb(NO3)2 the limiting reagent. why does the answer say that KI is the limiting reactant where did I go wrong?

Is it realistic for me to do 4U Maths?
Hey, this is my first post.
I am currently in an acceleration program at my school for maths. So I am currently in year 10 but I just finished my final prelim exams. I topped it and recieved 69/70 or 98.5% for my 2U Advanced final prelim exam. My school is currently around 10th in the state for maths. I am moving to a different school where they don't offer acceleration so I will have to repeat year 11 maths and am hoping to complete 4U maths in the end for year 12. I was wondering if it is realistic for me to do 4U maths? If so, what kind of raw marks should I be aiming for, to get a 99.5+ atar. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am just not sure of how good your marks should be to recieve 99.95.

Getting into oxbridge. (Oxford/Cambridge)
Hey guys.
I am aware that the UK universities are more focused purely on academia whereas the US uni's care more about extra-curricular activites. Would a 99.5 with a good interview do the job? Not just for Oxbridge but Imperial college of London as well.

How are my subjects?
Hi. I am currently in year 10. My biggest strength is in maths and sciences. Here are my subjects for net year (year 11)
Ex 1 English
Ex 1 Maths
Physics
CHemistry
Engineering
In Year 12 I am hoping to do Ex 2 MAths and drop to advanced English. I am questioning how good a choice engineering is. IS it very theory based incorporating lots of maths or is it more like memorising lots of materials? If it doesn't seem like a good choice, what would you recommend I swap it for?

Changes in staff Leading to teacher Incompetency
So heres the context:
We have two teachers for ancient history, and have all year. This term however, one of those teachers had to leave, and was replaced by an incompetent teacher. So we are left with one adequate teacher for our lessons on Monday and Tuesday, however, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we have a teacher incapable of teaching the subject. This teacher has taught us nothing in an entire term, so 3/5ths of our classes this term have been wasted. Including me, there are currently 10 students in the class, all of which have expressed amongst ourselves and other peers the inaptitude of our new teacher.
Below is an email i sent to the other members of my class, in a bid to have us come together and make a change for the better of our class.
"Can we all get together and see [head of senior school] and ask if we can have a change of teacher. The incompetency of our teacher should not be what prompts people to drop the subject, especially those who wanted to continue the subject through the HSC and possibly into later education and for their career. Prior to the introduction of [current 3 day teacher], only 3 or so students wanted to drop ancient, following his introduction, only 3 students wish to remain. If we had a teacher (ie. [Modern History/backup Ancient History Teacher]) who would actually teach us both the syllabus and the techniques behind writing historical essays, then we would actually have a chance at even PASSING the HSC course. In our current situation, we only have a competent teacher for two days of the week, even though that only makes up roughly half of our allocated sessions. If we hope to be successful in this course, we need to share our opinion regarding the inadequacy of our teacher, and his incapability to effectively teach our class."

Is it worth keeping Advanced in my case? (Ex-HSC marker teacher)
Okay so hear me out. This isn't the exact same as all those other posts.
I have an ex HSC marker as a teacher and recently she has become completely honest with our English advanced class about what is expected is us in the HSC. Apparently for an essay or creative story 6 pages is minimum for a B-A mark while in standard 3-4 will suffice for a B-A (factoring in quality of course) While she has been preparing me since year 7 (was lucky to have her every year since then) I am a really slow writer, I am bad at techniques and given practice papers I'm really struggling to keep on par with other students. It just doesn't come as natural, part of this is representative of my grip, it's really poor and will continue to haunt me however that's not my main reason, it was just a deciding feature to make me want to post this.
I am currently planning to pick up extension 2 mathematics, which will put my subjects are:
English advanced - 64% (70% but I feel like I flunked on my critical anlysis so guessing it Brought me down a bit)
Mathematics - 100%
Mathematics extension 1 - 90% (I messed up a chain of questions in the beggining of a question and little mistakes keep bringing me down -_-)
Physics - 95%
Chemistry - 97%
Software D&D - 85% (distance ED, basically self taught and I've been more focused on learning then performing well in tasks)
Mathematics extension 2 - N/A
Other 2 units is from a one year accelerated course (aviation cert 3 remote pilot (VLOS) which doesn't count for atar.
I am very passionate about all Mathematics, chemistry and SDD (maybe physics if my teacher wasn't just handing us the syllabus, no textbook and saying google it with the occasional single sided worksheets). However I'm not sure I will be able to cope with advanced English, a lot of my friends in standard keeping telling me they don't know why I'm in advanced, it's extra work for no payoff. And through my research a lot of atar calcs say the same thing, same mark and very limited scaling.
I just wanted to get an understanding of what you guys thought about the situation. I have read all the other posts and have been constantly watching over this thread for a long time, but now I have an account :).
